Location
With historic brownstones and chic new condominiums; family restaurants
and trendy bars, Logan Square is a Northwest Side neighborhood on the
rise. Nestled between Diversey Avenue on the north, Western Avenue on
the east, Armitage Avenue on the south and Pulaski Road on the west,
Logan Square is a mix of historic and new, and Logan Square real estate

Community Info / History
Logan Square is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Chicago. It was
founded in the early 20th century and named for General John A. Logan, a
Union Army general in the Civil War who served as an Illinois senator,
ran for Vice President of the United States and founded the national
Memorial Day holiday. It began as a destination for wealthy immigrants
who were well-served by the quality schools, sense of community and
affordable Logan Square real estate. It soon grew to be a home of
wealthy mansions in addition to hard-working community members. A statue
in Logan Square commemorates Illinois' centennial with an eagle atop a
column.
Logan Square is known for its boulevards: attractive, tree-lined streets

Square residents have easy access to the Kennedy Expressway and major
thoroughfares such as Milwaukee Avenue and Fullerton Street. When you
don't feel like taking the car, it's a fast "El" ride downtown on the
CTA Blue Line from the Logan Square or California stations. O'Hare
International Airport lies on the Logan Square line and is only 20
minutes by train. Five CTA bus lines run in and near Logan Square houses

Schools
Those who live in Logan Square have numerous school options from which
to choose. Ten elementary and middle schools feed into the local public
high school, Kelvyn Park. The schools are spread out among Logan
Square's many streets so that residents can have easy access. When

such as Burbank Elementary (2035 N. Mobile), Schubert Elementary (2727
N. Long) and Kelvyn Park High School (4343 W. Wrightwood). The city's

Nightlife / Entertainment / Restaurants
Entertainment is abundant in Logan Square, and many places are within
walking distance from Logan Square homes. California Avenue is a very
popular area with residents and includes many restaurants, bars and
cafes, most of which are native to the neighborhood. Popular bar /
restaurants include Lula Cafe (2537 N. Kedzie) and Boulevard Cafe (3137
W. Logan), both in the center of the Logan Square entertainment district
at Logan Boulevard and Kedzie Street. Other popular restaurants include
El Cid (2645 N. Kedzie and 2115 N. Milwaukee), Buona Terra (2535 N.
California), Street Side Cafe (3201 W. Armitage) and Abril (2607 N.
Milwaukee), all within walking distance of the numerous affordable Logan
Square apartments and houses. Many artists and musicians live here, and
their work can be seen in many local businesses, including the Realism
Update Theater (2957 N. Pulaski), Rosa's Lounge (3420 W. Armitage) and
the Fireside Bowl (2646 W. Fullerton).
In addition, Logan Square is home to many cafes and coffee shops such as
the popular Hotti Biscotti (3545 W. Fullerton) and South American bakery
Bakery La Luna (3309 W. Armitage), which are very close to many homes in
the area.
Small, ethnic shops also dot the landscape and are accessible by car and
public transportation.
Many family activities, including Logan Square community events,
weddings, dance classes and yoga take place at the Logan Square
Auditorium (2539 N. Kedzie). The building reflects Logan Square real
estate of past and present, with intricate designs and balconies.
Festivals / Parks
Logan Square residents enjoy many festivals during the summer months
both in the neighborhood and in the greater city. In warm weather, the
Logan Square Farmers Market runs on the northeast corner of Milwaukee
Avenue, Diversey Avenue and Woodard Street. |
