Bucktown Real Estate Chicago
Neighborhood Information
Location
Those who choose to buy a home in Bucktown are often attracted to the
unique combination of landmark architecture, tree-lined streets and
proximity to downtown. The neighborhood of Bucktown is located on the
near northwest side of Chicago about two miles from downtown and
directly adjacent to the neighborhood of Wicker Park, bounded roughly by
the Kennedy Expressway on the east, Western Avenue on the west and
Fullerton and North Avenues on the north and south.
Community Info / History
Bucktown was designed by architect Daniel Burnham in the 1890s and named
for the goats kept in the backyards of its early residents. During the
past decade, it has been transforming from its earlier blue-collar,
primarily Polish roots into a conveniently located, upscale-artsy
neighborhood. Poles have largely been replaced by a Mexican community,
especially at the western side of Bucktown.
The community is proud of its mix of nationalities and demographics.
Along the streets of Bucktown you will find a combination of old and
new, trendy and gritty, American, Latin and Eastern European, and more.
It is this unique and spirited mix that no doubt prompted MTV's The Real
World to choose a centrally located building in Bucktown to call home
for the Chicago season of its series.
Bucktown Real Estate
Buying a home in Bucktown can mean anything from a vintage cottage to a
new-construction condominium. Bucktown real estate includes rehabbed
lofts, townhouse developments and unique, luxury single-family homes
constructed side-by-side with the classic Victorian-style pre-existing
houses that lend to the neighborhood's character and charm. Even the new
construction is generally only three to four stories, preserving the
low-lying old-time feeling of the neighborhood and lending a comforting
contrast between Bucktown and the skyscrapers of downtown and along the
lakefront.
Bucktown homes for sale vary from the mid- to upper-$200's for
condominiums to million-dollar homes on the fringe of Lincoln Park,
replete with every imaginable amenity. Rehabbed single-family homes and
two-flats can be found in the $500-800,000 range. Search for Bucktown
Real Estate.

posh and upscale (nationally-acclaimed Spring or country French at Café
Matou). From casual American (the 24-hour Hollywood Grill) to diverse

Middle Eastern (Sultan's Market), or old-country Swedish delectables
(Ann Sather's).

larger-than-life whisk above their doorway.

up-to-the-minute fashion and home furnishing boutiques. Both can be
found traveling only a short distance in any direction from the Bucktown
crossroads intersection of North, Damen and Milwaukee Avenues.
